Message from Dean Benson
UVA Engineering is at a pivotal moment in its history. The University of Virginia recognizes that investing in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and engineering specifically, is critical to meeting the University's aspirations for the future. Backed by such a high level of commitment, the School of Engineering has an unprecedented opportunity to achieve its vision, which is to lead engineering schools in seizing opportunities to benefit humanity through bold research and world-class education.
We are reinventing the way engineering schools deliver value to society. We are deploying a new model that builds on our distinctive strengths in research and education, and that relies on interdisciplinary faculty and student teams in emerging areas of discovery. Our size is a strategic advantage. We are a vibrant and nimble engineering school. Through focus, collaboration and investment in world-class research and education, we are making our mark.
We start from a strong position. As the University approaches its third century, UVA Engineering has substantially reinforced the faculty, recruiting some of the best researchers and teachers. We have a thriving, dynamic research program in the midst of an exceptional comprehensive university, one that encourages its schools to address socially pressing issues through interdisciplinary research. Our faculty and students are working with peers across the University, revolutionizing precision medicine, creating a sustainable future and developing new, secure technologies for an interconnected, cyber-physical world.
By sharpening our focus and concentrating on things we do exceptionally well, UVA Engineering is enhancing its ability to play a leading role in these collaborative efforts, joining forces with institutions around the world to push the frontiers of knowledge and to make the world a better place. By bringing these high-impact collaborations into our classrooms and laboratories, we are revealing to young people their power as engineers to re-envision and reshape the world.
I invite you to explore our Web site or visit UVA Engineering in person to learn more about how we are setting an exciting pace for engineering research and education.
