Events to develop graduate engineering writing and presentation skills
The Graduate Writing Lab offers workshops, showcases and other events on communication topics relevant to UVA Engineering graduate students and postdocs.
see Graduate Writing Lab Events for UVA ENGR Grad Students on a Google Calendar and library, PhD Plus & other UVA events here . Note that WriteHere! has its own calendar due to the frequency & nature of the offering. Also see the library data services workshops for series on R, python, writing tools, data visualization, survey design, and more.
Most online events offer automated (ASR) captions. Engineering graduate students needing accommodations from the GWL to participate in events should email the GWL (firstname.lastname@example.org) at least 10 days before the event from their UVA email so that arrangements may be made with the Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) or others as needed. The email should include name, UVA email, and the nature of the needed accommodation (examples: live captioning, ASL interpretation, etc.).
Most events are not recorded, but are usually offered multiple times during a garduate student's time at UVA. Participants are not permitted to record events in most instances. Graduate students unable to attend an event (due to course schedule, etc.) are welcome to email the director (email@example.com) the day of the workshop to be added to the attendee email to get the slides, resources, and handouts when available. All GWL events and shared materials are for personal educational use only. In addition to synchronous events, the GWL has a number of video workshops & some recorded events available in collab.
