With the departure of 3/5ths of our fantastic undergraduate research assistants, we are currently looking for more UGRA help! If you would like to hear about the UGRA positions we have open at the moment, come to the MSE Research Fair on September 8th at 4:00 pm in the Wilsdorf Atrium. The below flyer, created by Alex Uy, lists the research fair details.
Erin, Kallia, and Justine have graduated from UVA. Justine is leaving to pursue her PhD at UCSB in materials science, Erin has decided to try her hand in industry, and Kallia is pursuing a PhD at UVA. They are all phenomenal research assistants and we are sad to see them go, but very proud of and excited for them!
Congrats Luke!
Congrats!
2020 has been a wild ride, but that hasn't stopped Mike, Alex, and Carly from passing qualification exams!
Sarah is working on studying SCC in nuclear waste containers made from stainless steels. She was awarded the Olsen graduate fellowship for her oustanding undergraduate and post-undergraduate research. We are so excited to work with you, Sarah!
Dr. Steiner has successfully defended his PhD research titled "Mechanistic Studies of Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking in Al-Mg Alloys under Atmospheric Exposure Conditions". He's now moving onto his post-doc position in Ohio. Bye Patrick!
Patrick's proposal, titled "Mechanistic Studies of Intergranular Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking Under Atmospheric Exposure Conditions", investigates SCC cracking in 5xxx series aluminum in saline and chloride rich environments.
Adam Thompson and Zach Harris' paper entitled "Examination of focused ion beam-induced damage during platinum deposition in the near-surface region of an aerospace aluminum alloy" is accepted for publication in Micron.
Zach Harris has successfully defended his dissertation titled "Elucidating Microstructural Contributions to Hydrogen Embrittlement Susceptibility in Ni-base Alloys". Great work!
