Contact Information Callout


The Contact Information callout creates a callout in the left column of website pages that includes the contact information for an individual.

Content Entry Fields

Title

This field holds the title for the Contact Information. The Title is not displayed on the public website. It is used to identify the Contact Information within the CMS. Make sure to provide a clear, descriptive title as you will use this title when selecting the Contact Information to pull it into site pages. You may wish to preface the title with text to identify your department or office, for example Chem Eng – Sarah Jones.

Heading

This field holds the content for the heading that appears above the contact information.

Person Name

This field holds the name of individual.

Position

This field holds all of the positions that the individual holds at the University. This field is designed to hold one position per text field. Use the Add Another Item button to add a new text field.

How to add a position

This button adds another position to the list. The new position is placed at the bottom of the list.

How to change the order of the positions in the list

To change the ordering, left-click on the four-pointed arrow icon to the left of the position text field and hold. Then drag the position to the desired place in the list.

The top-to-bottom order of the position text fields translates directly to the top-to-bottom order on the public website.

How to remove a position from the list

To remove a position, clear it completely out of the text field. If the text field is empty, it won’t be displayed on the public website page.

Office

This field holds the individuals office. Enter the office number and building (in this order) into the field.

University

This is the university with which the individual is affiliated. In most cases this will be the University of Virginia.

School

This field holds the full name of the school within the University with which the individual is affiliated.

Street Address

This field holds the individual’s street (mailing) address.

City

This field holds the city in the individual’s address.

State

This field holds the state for the mailing address. This field is visible only if content is entered into the City field.

Zip Code

This field holds the ZIP Code for the mailing address. This field is visible only if content is entered into the City field.

Email

This field holds the individual’s email address. Enter a single email address into this field.

Phone Number

This field holds the individual’s phone number.  Format the number as (xxx) xxx-xxxx.

Fax Number

This field holds the individual’s fax number. Format the number as (xxx) xxx-xxxx.

Websites

This field holds all of the individual’s personal websites (teaching website, research website, course website, etc.). This field is designed to hold one website per text field.

Title

This field holds the text of the website link.

URL

Make sure to use the full website address (make sure that it begins with http:// or https://).

Correct format: http://www.uva.edu/sites/jsmith/teaching.html
Incorrect format: www.uva.edu/sites/jsmith/teaching.html

Open URL in a New Window

When checked, this opens the More Stories link (displayed in a "box" below the Masthead Stories) in a new browser window or tab (depending upon how the user’s browser is configured and the device on which the visitor is viewing the site).

Link "title" attribute

This attribute creates a "tooltip" that displays the text when a user places the mouse cursor on the link. It is also used for accessibility purposes to provide an additional description of the link. The title attribute maximum length is 128 characters, including spaces between words and punctuation.

How to add a website

This button adds another website to the list. The new website is placed at the bottom of the list.

Social Media

This field holds all of the individual’s social media websites. This field is designed to hold one website per text field.  The text field labels indicate which social media website to enter. The social media links are displayed on the website as linked icons (i.e. if the LinkedIn field is filled in, a LinkedIn icon appears with the contact information).

Open URL in a New Window

The Open URL in a New Window checkbox controls if the link is opened in the same browser window/tab as the Engineering Website (unchecked) or if the link is opened in a new browser window/tab (checked).

To remove a website, clear it completely out of the text field. If the text field is empty, it won’t be displayed on the public website page.

Changing the order of the Social Media links

Link

This set of fields holds the content for a formatted “Call to action” link placed at the bottom of the list item. The Link has four fields:

1. Title

This is the text for the link.

Maximum length:  128 characters, including spaces between words and punctuation

2. URL

Must be fully-qualified, i.e. begin with http:// or https://

Maximum length: 2048 characters

3. Open URL in a New Window

When checked, this opens the link in a new browser window or tab (depending upon how the user’s browser is configured and the device on which the visitor is viewing the site).
