Math and Science Elective (3 credits)

One course chosen from an approved list of Biology, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, and Physics courses. BME Majors, including premeds, are not recommended to take BIOL 2100 or 2200 as their Math and Science Elective.

These are the acceptable courses from the 2019-2020 UVA Engineering First Year Guide: BIOL 2100, BIOL 2200, CHEM 1620, PHYS 2620, MSE 2090, or any APMA course 2000 or higher not already required by a student’s major and does not duplicate material from another APMA course.

STS Elective (3 credits)

Students must complete one 3-credit STS 2000-level elective. Any course which meets the Second Writing Requirement in the College of Arts and Sciences (CLAS) may be substituted for the STS 2000-level course.

Humanities and Social Sciences Elective (9 credits)

Chosen from the SEAS Undergraduate Dean’s Office list of approved HSS Electives, available online and in Thornton A-122. Courses that instill cultural values are acceptable while skill development courses are not. Consequently, courses that involve performance must be accompanied by theory or history of the subject. Courses on communication in the student's native language, regardless of their level, may not be used to satisfy this requirement.
