This course has been completely redesigned for the Fall 2010. This year we will focus on becoming experts in life cycle assessment methodologies.

The highly competitive FEST (Fund for Excellence in Science and Technology) awards are given to junior faculty in their first three years at UVa. The $50,000 prize will be used to support Shane’s work in using algae to remove emerging (e.g., estrogenic) contaminants from wastewaters in while producing bioenergy. The three year, $300,000 award is aimed at improving the energy efficiency of turbine systems using GEL technology and will support a new PhD student in our lab.

The second offering of this course in the Spring 2010 will focus on how we can all become ‘sustainability engineers’. This year we have nearly 90 students enrolled from across grounds! We’re also offering a complimentary 1-credit lab section (CEE 2110) this term for the first time ever!
