Health Care Systems Engineering
Creating advanced systems to improve the delivery of health care.
Our researchers apply technologies to engineer better ways of delivering health care to more people. The approach is interdisciplinary, often enlisting behavioral scientists, medical clinicians and other experts, at UVA and elsewhere, to design systems that improve how care is provided.
Our methodologies include health information technology, wearable sensors, smart phones and watches, machine learning, robotics, computational modeling and utilizing community resources. Ultimately, we aim to understand and support the way real people interact with their health care, individually and societally, addressing challenges in areas such as the treatment of diabetes, anxiety and depression, and public services such as water and sanitation.
