Civil and Environmental Research
The 21st century is incredibly important for civil and environmental engineers. Global communities urgently need solutions for resilient transportation, infrastructure systems, and water and ground remediations, in the face of shrinking or contaminated resources and climate change. We are tackling these grand challenges head on through multi-disciplinary, collaborative research.
We believe that engaging with the communities we serve ensures outcomes for a better, more inclusive world. With people-centered solutions in mind, we work we with governments, non-profits and industry in initiatives like the Center for Transportation Studies that develops next-generation transportation engineers, the UVA Environmental Resilience Institute that is modeling global approaches for community collaborations in tackling climate change, and the Link Lab for cyber-physical systems to create smarter cities and transportation systems of the future, integrating corporate and government partners in research and education.
