Clarity: 4 Strategies for Revising Scientific Writing with Nathan Sheffield, PhD

A Graduate Writing Lab Workshop

Monday March 26th 1pm-3pm

(1-2pm presentation, 2-3pm revising your own work)

Have you ever been told your writing isn’t clear? Then join us for this UVA Engineering Graduate Writing Lab workshop. The workshop offers four strategies for improving the clarity of your scientific writing (ex. research articles, conference papers, dissertation chapters). The first hour will showcase these strategies in a presentation format with examples from published writing. The second hour will offer attendees the opportunity to revise their own work with guidance from the presenter and staff from the Graduate Writing Lab. Attendees should plan to bring a piece of their own writing to revise during the second hour.

About the speaker: Nathan Sheffield is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Public Health Genomics at UVA. He earned his PhD in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from Duke University in 2013, and now leads a research group using computational methods to understand large-scale epigenomic data. He has spent several years developing and presenting training materials to help scientists improve their writing skills.

Space is limited so registration is encouraged.
