Panelists include-

Jason Papin (BME) 

Jason Papin is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia and editor-in-chief of PLOS Computational Biology. Jason previously served as an Associate Editor, Deputy Editor, and Deputy-Editor-in-Chief of PLOS Computational Biology as well as on the editorial board of other journals in the field of computational biology. His service to the scientific community also includes effort as an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Biomedical Engineering Society, as a standing member of the Biodata Management and Analysis (BDMA) NIH study section, and numerous other review panels of federal funding agencies and academic programs. His teaching and mentoring have been recognized with receipt of awards for undergraduate and graduate teaching. Jason’s work also involves translational activities with recognition as an inventor on several disclosures of intellectual property, in addition to consulting with multiple biotechnology companies.

Shayn Peirce-Cottler (BME)

Dr. Shayn Peirce-Cottler is Professor of Biomedical Engineering and the Director of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering with secondary appointments in the Department of Ophthalmology and Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Virginia (UVA). She has served as a peer reviewer for over one hundred papers, a guest editor for three special issues in different journals, and she currently serves on the editorial boards of Integrative Biology and Microcirculation. Dr. Peirce-Cottler has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and book chapters and is the inventor on two issued U.S. Patents. She is Past-President of The Microcirculatory Society and a fellow in both the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows and the Biomedical Engineering Society. 

 

James H. Lambert (ESE)

James H. Lambert is a Professor of Engineering Systems and Environment (Program in Systems Engineering, Program in Civil Engineering), Director of the Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems, and Member of the Technical Advisory Council of the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Logistics Systems at the University of Virginia and a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). He is Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journal Environment Systems & Decisions. He is an Area Editor of the Wiley journal Risk Analysis and Associate Editor of the ASCE/ASME Journal of Risk & Uncertainty in Engineering Systems. He is a Past President (2015-2016) of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) as well as a Fellow of the AAAS (F.AAAS), IEEE (F.IEEE), the ASCE (F.ASCE), & the SRA (F.SRA) and Diplomate (D.WRE) of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. His publications appear in Wiley journal Risk Analysis, Elsevier journal Reliability Engineering and System Safety, ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems, Military Operations Research Society Journal, IEEE Transactions on Systems Man and Cybernetics, Elsevier journal Accident Analysis and Prevention and others.
