The future of healthcare is personalized medicine where individuals take charge of their wellbeing. Work in this area at UVA spans from in-body, on-body, and in-situ sensors and actuators that detect and control physiology, behavior and, in the future, psychological states. In addition, to sensing and actuation, data mining, machine learning, and natural language processing are integral parts of the solutions. Medical issues being addressed include asthma, depression, dementia, obesity, telemedicine, and patient adherence to treatments. The majority of this work is conducted with the Link Lab. Collaborations with medical and behavioral scientists (both at UVA and elsewhere around the world) are involved with these research projects.
