How to Access Career Support and Resources

Dear UVA Engineering Undergraduate Students,

I am writing on behalf of all of us at the Center for Engineering Career Development; you have been in our thoughts over the past week and a half. I am sure you have many questions about what the next few months will hold, and I want to reassure you that our team is prepared to continue supporting you in your career development through the rest of this semester and beyond.

In the sections below, you’ll find information on how to schedule career advising appointments and how to access our online career resources. As our efforts expand and evolve in the coming weeks, we will be sure to communicate updates via our weekly newsletter and on our website.

You can find updated guidance on timely career-related topics on the UVA Career Center’s COVID-19 page. And, you can always review an archive of COVID-19 communications from the Engineering School here, as well as FAQs provided by the University here.

As we navigate this uncharted territory together, please know we are here to support you. If you have career-related questions, or if we can help refer you to other support systems on Grounds, please email us at engineeringcareers@virginia.edu or call 434-924-3050 and leave a voice message. A staff member will return your message within one business day.

We look forward to partnering with you to design, develop and implement your career plans, and we hope that you will take advantage of the many resources we have to offer.

All the best,

Julia Lapan

Director, Center for Engineering Career Development

Career Advising

Want to chat with a career advisor? Schedule a Zoom or phone appointment through Handshake! You can schedule appointments for the same day or a future date, Mondays-Thursdays from 1:00-4:00pm and Fridays from 10:00am-12:00pm. No in-person appointments or drop-in advising will be offered until further notice. If you need an appointment time outside those hours, please email engineeringcareers@virginia.edu.

To schedule through Handshake, under the Career Center menu select:

 — Appointments

 — Schedule a new appointment

 — Center for Engineering Career Development

 — Topic you’d like to discuss

Then, choose an upcoming date to see available appointments. A career advisor will send you a follow-up message with a Zoom link or phone number for the appointment.

For the next two weeks, priority will be given to third- and fourth-year students who are undergoing an active job/internship search. As a reminder, ALL engineering and computer science students are welcome to schedule a Zoom or phone appointment with our colleagues at the University Career Center through Handshake (select UVA Career Center - General Appointments at Bryant Hall under Appointments) or call 434-924-8900.

If you’ve indicated through a recent survey that you’re seeking opportunities, a career advisor will reach out to you.

If you are interested in attending a virtual event, please register for it via Handshake so you can stay up to date through email with any changes that occur.

Please let us know how we can support you!
