Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks tenure-track faculty in broad areas of strategic importance to UVA’s investment in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has a proven record of outstanding research with strong inter-departmental and inter-school collaborations and is committed to increasing diversity among our faculty and graduate student populations. Our research program ensures excellence and national prominence in core focus areas of:

  • Biomechanical Engineering for Health
  • Cyber-Physical Systems and Autonomy
  • Sustainability in Energy, Manufacturing and Transportation

We seek exceptional candidates with expertise related to the above three core areas. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: mechanical systems, solid mechanics, biomechatronics, extreme mechanics, autonomous vehicle safety, and/or industrial automation and AI control are encouraged to apply.

This search is open rank, with expectations that the faculty have primary appointment within the MAE Department, but opportunities for joint appointment(s) are possible in other departments within Engineering including: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and/or Engineering Systems and Environment. Successful candidates are also encouraged to consider potential collaborative opportunities within the world-class research centers and initiatives at UVA.
