Meet James Bonaffini from the BME Master of Engineering Program

James is a second year M.E. student. He is one of the M.E. Student Chairs for GBMES, representing the interests of M.E. students in the department.

Q: Where did you go to undergrad and what did you study?

I am a double Hoo! I earned an undergrad degree in BME, graduating from UVA in Spring 2015.  My primary interests included image or data processing.

Q: What is something that you like about your research?

In the M.E. program, we don't have a typical research setup.  Instead my teammates and I have Clinical Engineering Masters projects focusing on specific disciplines -- I am in the Renal Team.  I am eager to design a product that will lower the complications for patients that are undertaking dialysis in their home because I know it will make a large quality-of-life impact.

Q: What is a place (on earth) that you liked visiting/exploring?

I've spent a fair amount of time in the Sierra Mountain Range in California.  A couple years ago I trekked from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney on the John Muir Trail -- everything is spectacular in that area and I highly recommend it.  If you have any questions about taking a trip out there, come ask me!
