Pioneering New Insights into the Form, Function, Biology and Diseases of Muscles

The American Society of Biomechanics has awarded University of Virginia School of Engineering faculty member Silvia Blemker the status of Fellow. According to ASB, Fellow status is reserved for those members who have excelled in science and have been highly involved in the Society for at least ten years. Blemker was elected for exemplary contributions to the understanding of the relationship between skeletal muscle structure and function, in health and disease.

Blemker, a professor in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was also selected by ASB for the organization's 2019 Founders Award for scientific accomplishment in biomechanics and excellence in mentoring.
