Degree Program Requirements
Degree program requirements, milestones, and planning.
30 credit hours, or ten 3-credit courses, is the class requirement by all UVA online master’s degree programs.
Grades and Grade Point Average (GPA)
Only courses in which a grade of C or better is achieved can be applied toward the degree. GPA calculation includes all grades, however. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 must be maintained at all times. A student is placed on academic probation should his or her GPA fall below 3.0. If the GPA cannot be raised to 3.0 or higher, the student will be subject to dismissal from the program. These cases are monitored by the Engineering School Graduate Registrar's Office.
Plan of Study
A Plan of Study should be completed and submitted to the Office of Educational Innovation. The plan can be altered later if program changes are made. Only courses on an approved Plan of Study will be accepted toward the Master of Engineering degree. See additional information pertaining to requirements for the Masters of Engineering Degree as published in the Graduate Record.
A transfer form should be submitted with the Plan of Study if classes taken at other participating universities are to be applied toward a University of Virginia degree. A maximum of 15 credits may be transferred in to a VEO degree program. Courses to be transferred should be approved by the appropriate faculty advisor and/or UVA Engineering School instructor (for equivalent course review) before they are taken. Courses to be transferred cannot be taken in the same term one is graduating; the transfer form must be processed at least two weeks prior to the graduation date, including receipt of official transcript with final grade. Transfer forms can be found on the UVA SEAS Graduate Enrolled Student Forms page. (direct link: REQUEST APPROVAL OF TRANSFER CREDITS FORM )
Program Assessment Forms
The School of Engineering and Applied Science requires three program outcome assessment forms for all graduate Master of Engineering students. There are five program assessment forms in total, but only three will be completed for each student before degree completion. A faculty member familiar with one's work and from one’s department should complete the forms. Often this is done in one’s last semester.
