Ph.D. students Antonios Valavanis, Anustup Chakraborty and Julissa Velasquez traveled to Isola di San Servolo this July to participate in the 7th Venice International School in Lasers in Material Science. A total of 38 Ph.D. students — including the three UVA and five other students from the United States — completed the intensive biennial summer program.
Two of the most exciting fields to emerge in materials science and engineering in recent years are additive manufacturing and high-entropy alloys. By building on its existing strengths, UVA is developing distinctive approaches in both areas to help realize their potential.

Robert Kelly was named the 2016 recipient of the H. H. Uhlig Award from the Electrochemical Society’s Corrosion Division, another indicator of the exceptional quality of the corrosion research at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science.
