The Rotating Machinery and Controls (ROMAC) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia has an opening for a Research Associate. ROMAC is an industrial research consortium which performs research in a broad range of application areas related to turbomachinery. The individual will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, graduate students and research professionals.
A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required by the start date. A strong background and experience with turbomachinery is preferred. Knowledge and experience in specific subjects such as rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, experimental methods and computational modeling of rotating machinery is required. Industrially relevant experience in the field of turbomachinery, particularly in the areas of fluid-film bearings, seals and rotordynamic system modeling and analysis is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also have a record of publications in turbomachinery journals and presentations at turbomachinery conferences.
