Engineering & Society: Educating leaders who bring broad perspectives and essential skills to engineering for social good

Through our research, teaching, and engagement with multiple communities, the Department of Engineering and Society aims to illuminate the ways in which science, technology, and engineering have social consequences, and to explore and analyze science, technology, and engineering as social endeavors shaped by social conditions. Our research, teaching, and public engagement address sociotechnical challenges and inform the role of engineers and other stakeholders in their research and design practices.

Our strengths include ethics, values, and technology; knowledge integration (i.e., interdisciplinarity across science and engineering and the humanities and social sciences); and design and innovation practices.
