Professor T. Donna Chen Presents at the 2019 German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium
Civil engineering professor T. Donna Chen presented on electromobility and its impacts on transportation infrastructure at the 2019 German-American Frontiers of Engineering Symposium in Hamburg, Germany, on March 21. The event, organized by the National Academy of Engineering, is intended to facilitate international and cross-disciplinary research collaboration, promote the transfer of new techniques and approaches across disparate engineering fields, and encourage the creation of a transpacific network of world-class engineers.

Professors Beling and Horowitz Present at Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Event
Systems engineering professors Peter Beling and Barry Horowitz delivered a joint keynote presentation titled “Lifecycle-Ready Artificial Intelligence” at the 42nd annual New Horizons event of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association on March 6 in Boston. New Horizons brings together military and industry leaders to discuss ways to meet the Nation's critical security requirements.

Erin Robartes Selected to Attend Eno Future Leaders Development Conference
Civil engineering Ph.D. student Erin Robartes has been selected to attend the 27th annual Eno Future Leaders Development Conference in Washington, D.C., June 2-6. The Future Leaders Development Conference will provide a first-hand look at how transportation policy is developed and implemented, including meeting with top government officials, leaders of associations, and members of Congress and their staffs.

UVA Athletics Recognizes Daniel Golczewski
Daniel Golczewski, a fourth-year civil engineering major and a member of the men's varsity swim and dive team, was recognized by UVA Athletics for attaining the highest grade point average on the team for the fall 2018 semester. All of the scholar-athletes for each varsity team were recognized during the UVA men's basketball game against Georgia Tech. Golczewski has been a member of the team since his first year and is a multi-year letter winner.

Engineering Systems and Environment Welcomes 23 Visitors for Graduate Recruiting Weekend
The University of Virginia School of Engineering hosted its annual graduate recruiting weekend Feb. 21-23. School-wide, a full schedule of events for prospective graduate students included everything from department-specific lab tours to local excursions to nearby sites. Engineering Systems and Environment, the University's home for civil, systems and environmental engineering, welcomed 23 graduate recruits from diverse backgrounds.
