Jennifer L. West Dean of Engineering Meet Dean West
Jennifer L. West, UVA Engineering's 14th Dean, has a formidable record of accomplishments as a transformational researcher, award-winning teacher and mentor, inventor, and entrepreneur. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors, with 19 patents that have been licensed to eight different companies. Her priorities as Dean of Engineering at UVA include building upon the school’s research trajectory, increasing experiential learning opportunities for students and ensuring a clear pathway to entrepreneurship for faculty and students.

The Center for Diversity in Engineering is a student space dedicated to advocating for underrepresented groups in STEM—racial minorities, female, first-generation and low-income, and LGBTQ+ identifying students. UVA Engineering is committed to caring for members of its community. Students in the School of Engineering have access to an expansive student support team, including an embedded UVA assistant dean of students, counselors from UVA's Counseling and Psychological Services team, and a counselor from UVA's Student Disability Access Center. UVA Engineering leadership and faculty regularly interact with students in the classroom, at social events, and in informal spaces along Engineer’s Way.
