About
I am a Ph.D Student working within Dr. Otero-Leon’s Otero Stochastic Systems Lab in Theoretical Operations Research with applications in Healthcare. Some examples of my current research are building new methods for dimensionality reduction, developing approaches to Markov Automata for improving adherence and to simulate the course of illness, and using Variance-Reduced Monte Carlo on Markov Decision Processes to compare international policies on Kidney Cancer treatment. Historically, I have published about formal methods in healthcare in HFES and SIEDS the Bolton Lab as a research fellow.
Outside of the lab, I also advise Undergraduate System Engineering students on academic affairs (e.g: course selection, internships), act as the director of research in BAPS, assist clubs at UVA with their structure and compliance with UVA policy, teach courses on Simulation and Modeling while also being the secretary-treasurer of the student chapter of INFORMS at the University of Virginia. You will probably catch me somewhere around Olsson Hall helping with a departmental process or discussing about a random idea in a niche topic.
If I had to give unsolicited advice to a student of any type from undergraduate to graduate it is to listen to the people around you, and you will learn something either from their struggles or their insights. The more you do this, the more you will be prepared for life both in school and after it.
