About

Todd Kennedy is an executive leader and educator focused on the intersection of engineering, strategy, technology, and product innovation. He currently serves in senior leadership at Capital One, where he is responsible for their enterprise payments strategy.  Todd joined UVA in 2026 as The Brenton S. Halsey Distinguished Visiting Professor.

Over a nearly three-decade career, Kennedy has led multiple high-impact businesses and enterprise transformation efforts. Within Capital One’s U.S Card division, he led their Upmarket business and played a key role in the development and launch of their flagship credit card products including Venture and Quicksilver. He also co-chaired the company’s enterprise Machine Learning and Data Transformation initiatives, helping shape firmwide data strategy and advanced analytics capabilities.

Earlier in his career, Kennedy led Capital One’s Small Business Card organization and served as General Manager of the company’s Point-of-Sale business in Boston. His early work included new business development initiatives such as a joint venture with Sprint PCS. Across roles, he has focused on building scalable technology platforms, designing customer-centric financial products, and driving innovation in highly regulated and data-intensive environments.

Kennedy has a longstanding commitment to talent development and engineering education. He founded Capital One’s Analyst Development Program for college hires and has been deeply involved in building the firm’s Product Management community. At the University of Virginia, he teaches courses focused on bridging engineering with real-world decision-making, including product strategy, financial literacy, technology innovation, and leadership.

Kennedy earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia. He has also served on the UVA Engineering Foundation Board of Trustees for the past 10 years, first as a Trustee and now as a Pro Tempore Advisor.
