Wendy Qi is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Virginia. She received her bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia and her master's degree in Operations Research and Information Engineering from Cornell University.

Her research lies at the intersection of Operations Research, Systems Engineering, and Clinical Decision Science, with a focus on developing quantitative methods to support personalized healthcare decision-making. Her current work centers on optimizing treatment strategies for patients with small renal masses (kidney cancer) by integrating Markov Decision Processes, probabilistic model checking, and patient-level microsimulation models. Through these approaches, she seeks to identify management strategies that balance cancer control, kidney function preservation, quality of life, and long-term survival.

More broadly, Wendy is interested in applying data-driven modeling, simulation, and optimization techniques to improve clinical decision-making and healthcare delivery. Her goal is to bridge computational methods and real-world medical practice to support more personalized, evidence-based patient care.
