CS Research Symposium | October 6, 2026
The Department of Computer Science Graduate Student Group will host its annual Research Symposium on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. This event is a venue for faculty and graduate students to showcase their research and build their professional networks. The symposium will be an excellent opportunity for students to increase the visibility of their research, form new connections, and learn about the work happening in our computing research community.
Highlights of the agenda in the works include:

- Expected speakers from Meta, Microsoft, Capital One, and more!

Tentative Schedule:

| 9:00 am - 9:30 am | Breakfast | Location: Davis Commons Breakfast and informal networking to kick off the day. |
| 9:30 am - 9:45 am | Welcome from CSGSG | Opening remarks introducing CSGSG, the goals of the program, and an overview of the day's agenda. |
| 9:45 am - 10:15 am | Keynote Address | Location: Rice hall Auditorium A keynote from a distinguished UVA researcher highlighting their research, experiences, and perspectives. |
| 10:20 am - 11:05 am | Research Area Lightning Talks | Faculty and graduate students will give short presentations showcasing research across different areas of computer science and computer engineering. |
| 11:10 am - 11:55 am | Poster Session I | Location: Davis Commons Senior undergraduates, Master's and pre-qualifying PhD students will present their research and engage with attendees through poster discussions. |
| 12:00pm – 1:00 pm | Lunch | Location: Davis Commons |
| 1:00 pm - 1:45pm | Interview Prep Session | A practical session covering strategies, preparation tips, and best practices for technical and professional interviews by UVa Director of Graduate Affairs, Priya Date. |
| 1:50 pm – 2:30 pm | Industry Panel | A discussion on trends in research and careers in industry, including research-related roles, software engineering, and experiences of expert professionals. Speakers: TBD |
| 2:35 pm – 3:10pm | Internship Panel | A discussion on finding, preparing for, and making the most of internship opportunities in computer science and engineering. Speakers: TBD |
| 3:10 pm – 3:25 pm | Coffee Break | A short refreshment and networking break before the afternoon sessions continue. |
| 3:25 pm – 4:05 pm | Poster Session II | Location: Davis Commons Post-qualifying PhD students will present their ongoing research and discuss their work with attendees. |
| 4:10 pm – 4:50 pm | Beyond the PhD: Careers in Academia, Industry, and Beyond | A career-focused discussion exploring pathways in academia, industry, national laboratories, and other opportunities after a graduate degree. Speakers: TBD |
