Naveed Tavakol wins American Physiological Society Award
Naveed Tavakol, and undergraduate student in the Peirce-Cottler laboratory won an American Physiological Society (APS) Undergraduate Research Excellence Fellowship (UGREF), and presented his independent research at the 2016 Experimental Biology Meeting in San Diego, CA. Naveed is mentored by graduate student, Molly Kelly-Goss.

Dr. Peirce-Cottler named UVA School of Medicine Pinn Scholar
The Pinn Scholars program is designed to support and recognize our mid-level faculty and is named in honor of Dr. Vivian Pinn. A graduate of the UVA School of Medicine Class of 1967, Dr. Pinn is a member of the National Academies of Science, a fellow in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and past president of the National Medical Association.

Clif Ray wins best paper award at international stem cell meeting
Clif Ray (primary advisor: Paul Yates) won the best paper award at the 2017 International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science (IFATS) Conference for his talk, entitled: "A lineage-tracing mouse model reveals Myh11 smooth muscle cells and pericytes are mesenchymal stem cells" with co-authors Paromita Dey, Scott A. Seaman, Jennifer D. Mansour, Anthony C. Bruce, Shayn M. Peirce, Bijan K. Dey, Paul A. Yates.

Molly Kelly-Goss wins American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship
Graduate student in the Peirce-Cottler laboratory, Molly Kelly-Goss, won a prestigious American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowship, which will support her research for the next two years. Her project, which is funded by the AHA Mid-Atlantic Affiliate for two years, is entitled: "In vivo, single-cell analysis of recruited pericytes during angiogenesis and vessel stabilization."

Jefferson Trust Announces Grants to Support 18 Projects at UVA
A $60,000 grant for Developing Leadership in 3-D Bio-Printing will provide research funds for the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s two state-of-the-art 3-D bio-printers. The funding will be used for interdisciplinary research projects as well as providing UVA students with hands-on training in 3-D bio-printing.

UVa's New 3-D Bio-Printers May Soon Make Human Tissue
The Peirce-Cottler laboratory has acquired two state-of-the-art 3-D bioprinters from Switzerland. The printers will eventually print tissues that could be used to treat patients with conditions as diverse as burns to diabetes to organ failure.
