Meet the Class

Rodas Addis

Class of 2022
Rodas Addis is originally from Ethiopia and grew up in Alexandria, VA. She chose engineering because of her love for math and science. Rodas is majoring in computer science and worked as a calculus and math teaching assistant several semesters at UVA, plus has completed two internships with IBM where she will work after graduation.

Teagan Baiotto

Class of 2022
Teagan is from Staunton, Virginia and majoring in civil/environmental engineering. Teagan loves skiing, running, hiking, or cycling – anything outdoors. He has done research at the Environmental Resilience Institute and interned at East Point Energy and The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen. He is attending graduate school at University of Southern California.

Nazirah Farach Rojo

Class of 2022
Nazirah is majoring in mechanical engineering. She was raised in Mexico, then attended middle and high school in Oklahoma and Texas. She also studied abroad with the Clark Scholars in Spain. She uses this diverse perspective working at the Center for Diversity in Engineering and the Society for Hispanic Engineers. She will attend graduate school at University of Virginia.

Stephanie Gernentz

Class of 2022
Stephanie is from Chesterfield, VA and majoring in chemical engineering. Stephanie continued her love of Latin dance through the University Salsa Club. Stephanie was also a member of the Clark Scholars Leadership Council, program director for the Latinx Leadership Institute, and officer and mentor in other campus Latino organization. Stephanie will work at Eli Lilly after graduation.

Class of 2022
Emma Jensen is from Phoenix, Arizona majoring in mechanical engineering. Emma has had a long-term commitment to community service as president of her high school National Honor Society and including current leadership roles in her college sorority. She recently completed a summer internship with Honeywell and will work for Raytheon after graduation.

Garrett Johannsen

Class of 2022
Garrett is from Colorado and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico after high school. Garrett is majoring in biomedical engineering. Most recently, he interned at the UVA Center for Advanced Biomanufacturing where he worked on a manual validation project for novel cardiac image analysis software. Garrett will work for Vanda Pharmaceuticals after graduation.

Jennifer Khuu

Jennifer is from Yorktown, VA pursuing a computer science major. Last year, she was an information technology intern for Ingalls Shipbuilding, working on identifying cost savings in a $5.5M budget, performing data analytics, and customizing a database. Jennifer will work for Newport News Shipbuilding after graduation.

Amy Lee

Class of 2022
Amy is from Woodbridge, Virginia and is majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Spanish. She is a midshipman in the Naval ROTC program, an executive board member for the Radio Music Society, summer RA and TA for Clark Scholars, and a facility service attendant at North Grounds Recreation Center. Amy will commission as a submarine officer for the Navy upon graduation.

Class of 2022
Katarina is from Kansas City, Missouri majoring in chemical engineering. Katarina has interned at LEAP (Local Energy Alliance Program), been a summer TA and RA for Clark Scholars, and studied abroad in Valencia, Spain. Katarina will be working for Samsung Austin Semiconductor after graduation.

Class of 2022
Babafemi is a computer science major from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Babafemi has done several internships both during the school year and in the summer, most recently a lengthy internship at GoDaddy in Washington state. He will work for GoDaddy as a software engineer after graduation.

Joshua Sahaya Arul

Class of 2022
Joshua is a computer science major from northern Virginia. Josh loves creative coding projects, including predicting housing prices and creating a map of free food across Grounds. Josh graduated a year early from UVA and worked at Capital One as a software engineer before moving to California to work in software development at Google.

Vishal Singh

Class of 2022
Vishal is from Virginia Beach, VA and studying mechanical engineering. He has been a leader in the Clark Scholars Program as an RA, TA and member of Leadership Council. He interned as a test engineer for Liebheer Mining working on automated failure simulations of their mining trucks. Vishal will work at Newport News Shipbuilding after graduation.

Emma Wilt

Class of 2022
Emma is a California native who is majoring in systems engineering. She has been a Clark summer RA and social media developer for the program. She has also been a research assistant for several UVA faculty members in transportation engineering and risk management assessment. After graduation, she will work with Chewy in Boston as a business analyst.

Rachel Zhang

Rachel is from Fairfax, Virginia and is majoring in computer science and statistics. Her previous work includes environmental anthropology research, software development, and user interface design for a geocoding tool. Rachel has has internships at Fannie Mae and Goldman Sachs. She will return to work at Goldman Sachs in Texas after graduation.

Keith Williams

Associate Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering Clark Scholars Faculty Director

Williams' completed my Ph.D. in materials physics at Penn State University in 2001, and undertook postdoctoral research in the Molecular Biophysics Group at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, thereafter establishing a nanophysics laboratory in the physics department at the University of Virginia. 

Alicia Cowan-Brown

Clark Scholars Program Coordinator

Alicia joined the Clark Scholars Program in 2022 as the Program Coordinator. Her responsibilities include program implementation, scholar engagement, and collaborating with various partners to improve the Engineering student experience.
