  • Computer Science Chair Sandhya Dwarkadas' 2002 Paper Stands the Test of Time

    Department of Computer Science chair Sandhya Dwarkadas has won the Technical Committee on Computer Architecture's 2022 Test of Time Award for “Energy-efficient processor design using multiple clock domains with dynamic voltage and frequency scaling,” a paper she co-authored in 2002.
    Dwarkadas, the Walter N. Munster Professor of Computer Science at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science, received the award with her colleagues at HPCA2023, the 29th IEEE International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture, in February.

  • Computer Science's Hongning Wang Named Copenhaver Associate Professor

    Hongning Wang is UVA Engineering's new Copenhaver Associate Professor of Computer Science. Wang was nominated by the Department of Computer Science and appointed by the School of Engineering for a three-year period to the professorship, which is supported by the Copenhaver Faculty Excellence Fund for Student Research, established by a bequest from 1966 civil engineering alumnus Edwin Copenhaver III. The fund supports Copenhaver Associate Professors in their work with graduate students.

  • UVA CS Alum Elevated to IEEE Fellow

    William & Mary professor and UVA computer science alumnus Gang Zhou has been elevated to IEEE fellow effective in January 2023. The distinction recognizes his “contributions to sensor networks and low-power wireless networks.”The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Board of Directors confers the grade of fellow upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed 1/10 of 1% of the total voting membership.

  • Data Mining Team Earns Best Research Paper Award at KDD 2022

    Congratulations to Jing Ma and her co-authors who earned the best research paper award at KDD '22, a premier scientific conference in knowledge discovery and data mining.Conference judges deemed their paper, Learning Causal Effects on Hypergraphs, as best among 1659 research papers submitted.

    Congratulations to Professor Matthew Dwyer for receiving Association for Computing Machinery SIGSOFT International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis Impact Paper Award for “Probabilistic Symbolic Execution” at the ISSTA 2022 conference.The ACM SIGSOFT International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis (ISSTA) is the leading research symposium on software testing and analysis, bringing together academics, industrial researchers and practitioners to exchange new ideas, problems and experience on how to analyze and test software systems.

  • Computer Science Associate Professor's Knack for Individualizing Students Earns Him the 2022 Harold S. Morton Jr. Teaching Prize

    The Harold S. Morton Jr. Undergraduate Teaching Award for 2022 has been awarded to Raymond Pettit, an associate professor of computer science.
    UVA Engineering dean Jennifer L. West announced the award at the School of Engineering and Applied Science's annual reception marking the end of the academic year, during which retiring faculty also are honored.
