About

Dr. Cody Wolf is a cancer biologist specializing in identification of novel targets and drug development for cancer patients to inhibit growth and metastasis. His long-term research goals are to help identify novel drivers for metastasis and develop therapeutics that are clinically relevant for patients.

Dr. Wolf’s current research is understanding the molecular mechanism behind cell surface plectin (CSP), a cytolinker protein that is ubiquitously overexpressed in cancer patients while absent on the cell surface in normal tissue.  His work within the Kelly lab is seeking to understand how CSP leads to increased invasion and metastasis and is working to develop a novel therapeutic for patients with overexpression of CSP.

Dr. Wolf has a passion for scientific skepticism, teaching,  and advocacy. During his final year of his graduate program, Dr. Wolf created his own course seeking to educate undergraduate students on how to be appropriately skeptical within their own research, and how to communicate skepticism-minded scientific topics to the layperson community.

He also is a rotating guest lecturer at the Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research Summer Program, where he teaches two-week courses on Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology , and Molecular Medicine to gifted high school students at major institutions.

Dr. Wolf is also a long-time volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) where he has served as a lead volunteer for two states; Idaho and Virginia. He also is a member of the LGBTQIA+ &Allies Affinity Group and a lead for the Young Lear Caucus within ACS CAN.

He has also lobbied with several organizations to increase cancer research funding at the federal level on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. including ACS CAN, the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) and the Rally for Medical Research

Dr. Wolf also serves on the AACR Associate Membership Council, where he works to support early-career cancer researchers and clinicians achieve their research goals and connect with colleagues internationally.

Dr. Wolf is an active birder, often spending hours outdoors staring through binoculars, and an avid reader, including co-hosting his own book podcast. Occasionally, he is a successful baker.
