About

Dr. Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia, with a secondary appointment (by courtesy) in the Department of Computer Science. Previously, She was an Assistant and then tenured Associate Professor at the Pennsylvania State University. She received her B.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), and M.S. and PhD degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park, all in Electrical Engineering.

She received the National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2015 and the WICE Early Achievement Award in 2020, and was selected as one of the 2020 N2Women: Stars in Computer Networking and Communications. She served as an Editor for IEEE Trans. on Wireless Communications (2020-2025), an Editor for IEEE Trans. on Green Communications and Networking (2017-2020), a TPC (co)-Chair for Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers 2023 - Networks Track, IEEE INFOCOM 2021- Workshop on Age of Information, IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) 2021 - Signal Processing for Communications (SPC) Symposium, International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP) 2019 - Big Data Symposium, IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC) 2014 - MAC and Cross-Layer Design, and a TPC member for various conferences. She is now an Area Editor for IEEE Trans. on Green Communications and Networking, and an Associate Editor for IEEE Trans. on Cognitive Communications and Networking.

Dr. Yang's research interests lie in machine learning, wireless communications and networking, and information theory. Her current research topics include transformers and large language models (LLMs), multi-armed bandits and reinforcement learning, privacy-preserving machine learning, federated learning and distributed/decentralized learning, machine learning for wireless communications and networking, as well as novel applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
