About
Professor Fernando's research interests are in machine learning and in projects that combine data science with pedagogy. Prior to joining the Center for Applied Mathematics at UVA Engineering she served as a postdoctoral research associate and adjunct teaching faculty at The University of Texas at Arlington and as a lecturer at Northern Arizona University. Professor Fernando is originally from Sri-Lanka and earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Colombo. She received her master's and PhD in mathematics from Kansas State University.
