Reducing the cost, increasing the strength of Mg alloys
Dr. Zhou received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) "DMREF/Collaborative Research: Low Cost, High Strength and Ductile Mg Alloys". He will be collaborating with fellow MSE and Cornell faculty on an investigation into alloy design strategies involving Guinier-Preston zones, which are nanoscale precipitates in alloys. Our group will be responsible for leading the modeling components investigating the Guinier-Preston zone structure and thermodynamic properties in Mg alloys.
