Reducing the cost, increasing the strength of Mg alloys
Dr. Zhou received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) "DMREF/Collaborative Research: Low Cost, High Strength and Ductile Mg Alloys". He will be collaborating with fellow MSE and Cornell faculty on an investigation into alloy design strategies involving Guinier-Preston zones, which are nanoscale precipitates in alloys. Our group will be responsible for leading the modeling components investigating the Guinier-Preston zone structure and thermodynamic properties in Mg alloys.

Design of UHTC for oxidation resistance
Dr. Zhou received his first grant from Office of Naval Research (ONR) with Dr. Beth Opila on "Design of UHTC for oxidation resistance".
