Abstract: 

The talk will discuss the technical advances that are enabling the use of improved products and technologies, including: Building Integrated Photovoltaics; Dynamic Glazing including Thermochromic and Electrochromic glass; and applications using Vacuum Insulating Units, all of which build on large-scale Magnetron Sputtering of Low Emissivity nano layered coatings.

Bio: 
Currently, Dr. Boyer is a principal at C E Boyer & Associates LLC since retiring from Viracon in March 2020. He joined Viracon as the Vice President of Research, Process & Product Development in September 2009. Prior to joining Viracon, Charlie had 25 years of technical and business experience across multiple market sectors. From 2005 through 2008, he served as Vice President of Research & Development for Coloplast Skin Health. From 2003 to 2005, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Tech Logic, an automated material handling OEM and RFID integrator. Between 1985 and 2003, Charlie served in continuing leadership roles at 3M Company overseeing government contracts, leading the Austin, TX electronic materials laboratory, having profit and loss responsibility for the Encapsulated Products business unit, and serving and living in Singapore as a Technical Director in the Asia Pacific Operations. Charlie obtained his Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. Charlie earned both his Master of Science in Materials Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. Charlie was previously a member of the Board of Directors of Veritec Inc. He has served on the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Flex Lab Advisory Board and on the Purdue Herrick Laboratory Advisory Board. Charlie has been recognized as a co-inventor on multiple U.S. and foreign patents.
