The graduate student representatives on the the BME Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee, Yonathan Aberra, Bryana Harris, and Taylor Marohl, launched an ongoing series of inclusive discussions about race, LGBTQ+ identity, disability and other identities, and how they impact life across the U.S. and here at UVA. The series, called Candid Conversations, was initiated following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police earlier this summer and the nationwide protests that followed. The students saw a need and opportunity for open and frank dialogues, with the hope that these conversations will bring a sense of normalcy to this type of open exchange of perspectives.
