In this talkat the 2018 BMES Annual Meeting,Kevin Janesdescribes what makes for good quantitative biological reasoning (QBR); why a course in methods and logic in biomedical engineering is important; why it resonates especially for students training inbiomedical data science and systems biology; and how Dr. Janes approaches this pivotal course. BME 4550/7370 QBR is offered as an elective each spring to first and second year graduate students and fourth year undergraduate. It is a required course for students participating in UVA'sNIH T32 Biomedical Data Science Training Grant(Jason Papin, PI).
