The Department of Computer Science Welcomes New Faculty

UVA Engineering welcomes a diverse cohort of new faculty members for 2020-2021, continuing the school's remarkable growth and transformation and driving innovation in research and education. Meet our new Department of Computer Science faculty below.

Felix Xiaozhu Lin has joined the Department of Computer Science as an associate professor.

FELIX XIAOZHU LIN joined the Department of Computer Science as an associate professor in August 2020. Prior to his appointment at UVA Engineering, Lin was a tenured associate professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. He earned a bachelor’s in automation in 2006 and a master’s in computer science in 2008 from Tsinghua University. In 2014, Lin completed his doctoral research and received a Ph.D. in computer science from Rice University. The same year, he joined Purdue University as an assistant professor. Lin’s research focuses on methods to accelerate and safeguard software systems.

Associate professor Lin is a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, 2019; a Google Faculty Research Award, 2016; the National Science Foundation Computer and Information Science and Engineering Research Initiation Initiative Award, 2015; and a Best Paper Award from the Association of Computing Machinery International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems (ASPLOS), 2014.

Elizabeth Orrico has joined the Department of Computer Science as a lecturer.

ELIZABETH ORRICO joined the Department of Computer Science as a lecturer in August 2020. Prior to her appointment at UVA Engineering, she spent two years as a physics and math teacher at Alliance College-Ready Public Schools through AmeriCorps Teach For America. Orrico received a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia in 2015. In 2017, she received a master’s in computer science from University of Southern California. Orrico’s work has focused on game theory and optimization as applied to threat detection in airport security. She has also worked on image processing applied to astronomy, medical imaging and commercial software.
