Amna Tahir, Fiona Teevan-Kamhawi, Brian Abt, Caitlin Rudy and Jack Pagan represented UVA in the first-ever ChemE-Sports competition at the 2019American Institute of Chemical EngineersStudent Conference. University teams went head-to-head running industrial distillation columns using simulation software from laptop computers while monitoring for optimization and safety. They were given real-life scenarios that could be observed in a plant and an objective to complete within a time limit. Teams were judged on how quickly and effectively they recognized, analyzed and responded to problems.
