Sepideh Dolatshahi is a new assistant professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Virginia who is working to understand the fundamental mechanisms of immune regulation and dysregulation. The end goal is to optimize immune responses to confront specific issues, ranging from infections to cancer. To accomplish this, her lab builds computational models and machine-learning strategies that integrate experimental data across various scales. In this video, Dolatshahi explains how, early in her Ph.D. training in electrical engineering, she became interested in systems biology—and never looked back.
