Computer science student Darren Amona spent his second summer as a software engineering intern at Amazon. This summer, he applied his skills to the Alexa shopping team, gaining valuable experience in a hands-on project.

Riley Tomek spent the summer working with the Data, Digital & Innovation team at Citi's Securities Services where she gained experience in strategic product management. The opportunity helped Tomek gain valuable skills she can carry into her senior year at UVA!

BME student Thomas Ackleson spent the summer researching preventative treatments for DNA damage caused by radiation on long-duration space missions at the Los Alamos National Lab. His research won the Health category at the LANL Student Symposium.

A team of UVA aerospace engineering students presented a plan for sustainable aviation at the AIAA Aviation Forum in Las Vegas, Nevada. Biomedical engineering student Sabrina Berry recently wrapped up a cross-disciplinary opportunity as an intern for UVA's Center for Applied Biomechanics. While there, she assisted with a project for Honda that investigates automobile safety and seatbelt use for pregnant occupants and contributed to a pedestrian safety project.

The Engineering-Girls Formula: Show Science, Create Welcoming Space, Add Acts of Kindness
During Engineering-Girls week, UVA Engineering students, faculty and staff rolled out the red carpet and lit Bunsen burners for the next generation of female students.
