Junyu Wang is a fourth-year PhD student in Michael Salerno's lab and former GBMES International Student Chair. I grew up in a small city in Shanxi province, the north part of China. My hometown is rich in coal and it is also one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. I grew up under the influence of traditional Chinese culture. After my college entrance exam, I was admitted to Beijing Jiaotong University majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Luckily, in my third year, I got a chance to go to UC San Diego as an exchange student. That was my first time coming to the states. I was fascinated by the research environment and education resources. During that time, I also visited Silicon Valley and Stanford. At that moment, I promised myself that I would come back to this land one year later and pursue my graduate degree. One year later, I was admitted into UVA's BME program. The day I received the offer from UVA was one of my biggest moments in my life. I am working with Dr. Michael Salerno focusing on cardiac magnetic resonance quantitative perfusion imaging. The thing I enjoy most is working with a clinical doctor to advance perfusion techniques and advance the diagnosis accuracy of coronary artery diseases. I really wish my study and research can benefit someone. I adopted a two-year old Corgi from a friend. His name is Rice! He has brought me so much joy. On the other hand, he also teaches me some life lessons. I appreciate his company with me.
