About

Chris Hellings is an assistant professor in the Applied Mathematics Department, with interests in operator theory, the mathematics of voting, and undergraduate math education. He is from Philadelphia and studied mathematics and physics at La Salle University. He came to Charlottesville to attend UVA as a graduate student, where he received his Ph.D. in mathematics.

Before entering academia, he was a mathematical analyst for Metron Inc., a consulting company in Northern Virginia. Subsequently, he was a member of the mathematics faculty at Gwynedd Mercy University from 2004 to 2020, teaching a wide variety of courses and serving as program coordinator.

In 2020, Chris moved back to Charlottesville to join the Applied Math Department here at UVA. He has taught multivariable calculus, differential equations, and probability. His free time is spent having fun with his wife Susan and son Sam, playing board games and vintage baseball.
