Fast Lane: A Day in the Life of Cavalier Autonomous
What's "a day in the life" like when you're on the Cavalier Autonomous Racing team? Sometimes it's fast-paced. Other times it's slower and more methodical as you work through problems, one by one, until they're solved. Check out the following video links for more insights.
Testing and Fine Tuning
Cavalier Autonomous Racing AV-24 Testing at Lucas Oil Raceway
An inside look at our testing and tuning process for the upgraded AV-24 Cavalier Auto Racing car in Indianapolis. In this video, you’ll see what a typical track testing day looks like, from conducting single-car and multi-car operations to gathering and analyzing crucial data. We focus on both online and offline fine-tuning of our autonomous racing stack. You'll catch glimpses of us adjusting the MPC controller costs, gathering data from Lidar, radar, GNSS, and camera systems, and testing autonomous pit entry and exit and testing various radio flags to communicate with the car.
The Thrill of Racing
Cavalier Autonomous Racing's Overtakes at Indy Autonomous Challenge CES 2024
Check out the video featuring all the overtakes by the University of Virginia's Cavalier Autonomous Racing team on race day at the Indy Autonomous Challenge at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway during CES 2024. In the semi-finals, our team faced MIT-PITT-RW. Starting as the attacker, our autonomous car successfully completed overtakes when the defending car was running at 80 mph, 100 mph, and 115 mph, ultimately reaching a speed of 143 mph (230 kmph).
Sharing Our Data
RACECAR - The Dataset for High-Speed Autonomous Racing
Through racing, students contribute to the RACECAR dataset, which is the first open dataset for full-scale and high-speed autonomous racing. Multi-modal sensor data is collected from fully autonomous Indy race cars operating at speeds of up to 170 mph (273 kph).
AV-24 Autonomous Car Practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Join the Cavalier Autonomous Racing Team as we test our AV-24 autonomous car at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Track time at IMS is precious, and every second counts. Watch as our team navigates the challenges of autonomous racing, problem-solving on the fly to run as efficiently as possible.
