Centers, Labs, Groups
In research labs and groups across UVA Engineering, our faculty and students are making discoveries and disseminating their breakthroughs across the globe.
-
Giri Group
The Giri Research Group is focused on studying the fundamental processes (thermodynamic, kinetic, mechanical and optical) that lead to different organic molecule and metal organic framework morphologies, and utilizing this knowledge to create innovative methods of controlling microstructure and phase for pharmaceutical and energy applications. -
Global Hydrology and Water Resources Group
Our research group focuses on solutions and analysis of global hydrology issues using GIS and remote sensing. -
Global Infectious Diseases Institute
The Institute aims to address three major 21st-century concerns: diarrheal disease in children, pandemic threats and the most resistant and urgent infectious organisms known as superbugs. The institute takes an interdisciplinary approach, from the identification and diagnosis of disease to intervention to evaluation, in order to understand the mechanisms of disease and intervene medically, socially and through policy. UVA Engineering Representatives: Roseanne M. Ford and Jason Papin. -
Hemp CoLab
Hemp CoLab seeks to advance scholarship in hemp-based construction by catalyzing interdisciplinary research and developing sustainable building materials. -
High-Performance Low-Power Lab
The High-Performance Low-Power (HPLP) Laboratory is dedicated to research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) hardware and edge IoT. Ongoing research spans a wide range of topics, from Processing-in-Memory (PiM), low-power hardware accelerator design, and Smart Dust, to explorations in spintronics and nanoelectronics. -
Hossack Lab
Hossack Lab is a group of researchers who study ultrasound and ultrasound contrast agents to advance innovative applications in disease diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. -
Infrastructure Simulation, Sensing and Evaluation Lab
Our research within the Infrastructure Simulation, Sensing and Evaluation Laboratory focuses on the performance characterization of the built environment.Capabilities- Structural Health Monitoring
- Infrastructure Condition Assessment, Large-Scale Infrastructure Systems
- Digital Twins, Image-Based Evaluation Techniques, Applied Machine Learning
-
Integrated Electromagnetics Circuits and Systems Lab
The Integrated Electromagnetics, Circuits, and Systems (IECS) Lab in the University of Virginia’s Electrical and Computer Engineering department is led by Professor Steven Bowers. -
Kelly Lab
The Kelly Laboratory is interested in analyzing how the various biological scales such as molecules, proteins, cells, and structures interact in both normal and abnormal states. -
KEVION
The KEVION facility at the University of Virginia consists of a modern, dual beam line, 25 – 300 kV ion accelerator with state-of-the-art analysis chambers, GRAINS and ICE, for transformative research in studies of space weathering, radiolysis, radiosynthesis, sputtering, surface charging, radiation damage, and sample characterization.
