The University of Virginia Department of Biomedical Engineering is pleased to announce that doctoral candidate Tim Ho has been selected for the Commonwealth of Virginia Engineering and Science (COVES) Policy Fellowship. This program is designed to strengthen the scientific and technical capacity of Virginia’s state government, private industry, and nonprofit organizations by equipping young scientists and engineers to serve as effective advisors for public policy.
Tim is currently pursuing his PhD at UVA, specializing in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). His research focuses on quantifying the underlying histology of brain tissue through MRI tissue contrast. By utilizing advanced MRI methodologies, his work aims to develop noninvasive imaging biomarkers that reflect microstructural tissue properties. Additionally, he is working to translate these methods to evaluate the effects of focused ultrasound interventions.
Before his doctoral studies at UVA, Timothy earned a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he concentrated on bioinstrumentation. His technical background, combined with his participation in the CASE workshop, led to a focused interest in interpreting novel technologies and understanding their broader implications for health technology policy. Through the COVES Fellowship, Tim will apply this expertise to support data-informed policy efforts within the Commonwealth.
