IFAB Fees & Rates


The Innovations in Fabrication (IFAB) is a cost-center facility at the University of Virginia is the School of Engineering that is open to internal (UVA) and external users to perform research and development activities. Fee rates are established by the managing unit and approved by the University Office of the Comptroller. Externall users pay higher rates.

Two tiers of Monthly Entrance Fees
- IFAB currently offers a single $950/mo Full Facility Entrance Fee that allows users access to both Microfabrication and BioManufacturing. 
- IFAB also offers a $10/mo BioManufacturing Facility ONLY Entrance-Fee.
Hourly rates on select equipment (Biomanufacturing: All equipment; Microfabrication: E-beam Raith and Laser Microwriter direct-write)

- Usage of the chlorine Oxford RIE includes a $10/hr LN2 supply fee

Three Tiers of Entrance Fees
The FOM software will automatically calculate which Entrance-Fee tier to apply based on which instruments you use.
-  Bio-Facility Entrance that allows users acces to only BioManufacturing
-  Partial-Facility Entrance that allows users access to both Microfabrication (not including chemical & lithography hoods) and BioManufacturing
-  Full-Facility Entrance that allows users access to both Microfabrication (including chemical & lithography hoods) and BioManufacturing
Two Types of Entrance Fees
The FOM software will automatically calculate which Entrance-Fee type to apply based on your facility use, selecting the lowest charge to you.

IFAB staff Assisted-Use Fees
- If the user needs the technical assistance of staff beyond normal practices.
- For example, the case where a user doesn’t know how to use an instrument, and it would be simpler not to be trained, but to instead have staff perform the process with the user.

Fee Caps
- Monthly Cap on the Microfabrication Monthly Base Fee.
  * The Base Fee = Entrance Fee + $/hr fees from "Basic" Instruments for that month.
  *  Basic instruments = all instruments except the RAITH E-beam & MIicrowriter Laser direct write tools. 
- Monthly Cap on the $/hr RAITH E-beam and on the  MIicrowriter Laser direct write tools. 
- Monthly Cap on BioManufacturing Entrance + $/hr fees
