J. Milton Adams
Professor EmeritusAdams earned his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from UVA in 1976 and returned to join the faculty in 1978. His “Physiology” class in the Department of Biomedical Engineering has a reputation of being one of the best courses in the Engineering School. In addition, he still accepts a full load of academic advisees annually.

James H. Aylor
Professor Emeritus, Electrical and Computer Engineering Dean Emeritus, School of Engineering and Applied ScienceDr. Aylor has been an active researcher in the area of complex computer system design including computer technology for persons with disabilities. His most significant accomplishments include the development of the VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL), the development of a new "mixed-level" modeling technology.

J. Taylor-Beard
Associate Professor EmeritusHe joined the University of Virginia in 1965 and to recognize his outstanding contributions to undergraduate teaching efforts, Taylor Beard was named Lucien Carr Associate Professor for the year 1997-98. He served as an American Specialist for the U. S. State Department's International Communications Agency, lecturing in Pakistan on solar energy.

John K. (Jack) Brown
Professor EmeritusBrown taught history, applied ethics, writing, and public speaking in the Department of Science, Technology, and Society till 2015. His research centers on American technological and business history. He has won awards from the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society, the Society for Industrial Archaeology, and Society for the History of Tech.

Professor EmeritusGiorgio Carta has served an Editor of Biotechnology Journal from its founding and as a member of the Editorial Board of Separation Science & Technology. He has been a consultant for a number of chemical and pharmaceutical companies. He has published extensively in the area of adsorption and ion exchange with emphasis on protein chromatography.

James Cohoon
Associate Professor, Computer Science, EmeritusJim Cohoon has co-authored several programming language textbooks. His research interests are swarm algorithms and models, probabilistic search, routing, and Computer Science education and broadening participation. He is a former Fulbright Scholar and winner of the IEEE Computer Science Taylor L. Booth Education Award.
