Principal Investigator
Petra Reinke
Professor of Materials Science and Engineering Director Engineering Physics Program
Petra Reinke received her first degree, a diploma (M.S.) from the University of Konstanz in Germany, in Chemistry where she focused on physical chemistry.
Ph.D. Students
Keithen Orson
Keithen is a PhD candidate specializing in studying molybdenum’s (Mo) role in the corrosion and oxidation of superalloys. Utilizing advanced techniques such as photoelectron spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron microscopy, and machine learning, his research focuses on improving the understanding and performance of these materials in extreme environments.
Farzad Bastani
Farzad is a PhD student at the UVA, focused on the oxidation behavior of Compositionally Complex Alloys (CCAs) in their initial stages. By employing techniques such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and other materials science methodologies, his research aims to uncover the fundamental mechanisms driving oxidation in these advanced alloys.
Undergraduate Students
Jessica Serina Chung
Jessica is an undergraduate student majoring in materials science and engineering at the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on the analysis of molecular structures using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Outside of her academic pursuits, Jessica enjoys dancing and knitting.
