This article discusses the installation and activation of LabVIEW, a graphical programming environment that provides unique productivity accelerators for test system development, such as an intuitive approach to programming, connectivity to any instrument, and fully integrated user interfaces.

Licensing details should be provided by your professor for student course work

Licensing needs for Research on University-owned computers should be requested via
email to: ENGR-IT@virginia.edu

Please include:

  • Department
  • Lab
  • PI names
  • Physical location

The licensing code is a 11 alpha-numeric code – expires annually.

  • Download the application  LabVIEW Download - NI - the currently licensed version is 2024 Q3
  • NI account is required
  • Admin access is required for installation.
  • Launch the downloaded Ni-labview-2024_xxx_Suite_online.exe file. Actual file name may vary
  • Select the desired drivers needed for your research device or use default selection
  • Select or deselect any additional items or use default selection
  • Accept License agreement
  • Confirm installation summary
  • Update Service Check – Select your preference
  • Activation Screen
    • Enter a Serial Number boxes and click Activate
    • Days window reference the remaining days on the license

Click FINISH – reboot may be required 

  • Final Activation - An email from NI Activation will be sent to complete the activation.
  • Launch NI License Manager 
  • Select Activate Software
  • Select No Internet connection?...Offline activation – bottom right corner 
  • Enter the unique activation code and click ACTIVATE – Click FINISH

To remove an activation from within NI License Manager:

  • LOCAL Licenses
  • Select the application
  • Click DEACTIVATE
  • Status will change to "Unlicensed"
