2 Step Authentication - DUO
Here is where you need to go for all things DUO
Add or remove a device - Download some Codes to Go - App selection
2-Step Login (Duo) provides an additional level of security to your UVA account through two-factor authentication. All UVA students, faculty, staff, and sponsored account holders are required to enroll in Duo to access NetBadge-protected resources (e.g., UVA Box, SIS, Workday, etc.).

LastPass - Password storage
LastPass a password management tool for both personal and UVA account passwords. It will remember your passwords, autofill login information, and generate new passwords for you. LastPass can be used on computers and mobile devices.

AntiVirus Requirements
All devices used to access the UVA network should be protected by antivirus software to prevent infection by malicious code or programs, including viruses, spyware, worms, and other malware. This includes:
- Personal Devices
- University Owned Devices
- University Servers

Supported Computing Technology
Per the University Data Protection Standards policy, only those versions of operating systems and network-aware applications actively supported by their vendors or open-source community must be used when shared devices (like servers, network attached storage, disk arrays, etc.) are attached to the network.

Electronic Records Policies
- Carefully consider where to store University records.
- Highly Sensitive Data should not be stored in OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Or Box.
- University documents and collaborative documents that need to be retained after the owner leaves UVA should not be stored in OneDrive or Box, as the data may be lost after the person leaves UVA.

OneDrive - M365 Cloud Storage -5 TB
OneDrive is an online cloud storage service that integrates with Microsoft 365 so users can access Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and other documents in one place. Users can share files and simultaneously edit collaborative documents online. UVA users receive 5TB of storage (no increases allowed).

UVA Box is a free, cloud storage for eligible students, faculty, and staff to store up to 1 TB of non-sensitive/moderately sensitive University files securely – anywhere, anytime, on any device, for the duration at UVA.

Enterprise Storage
Enterprise Storage solutions, suitable for both highly sensitive and non-sensitive data, are designed to process heavy workloads. Access is available through both NFS and SMB environments.

UVA Remote Apps
Remote Apps
The intended use is to run licensed software like Minitab, MATLAB, Rstudio, etc., remotely on student-owned computers. Faculty Requested Course needed software may also be found on Remote Apps
Departmental labs using remote apps must have a signed MOU and is responsible for all issues with remote apps usage in the lab

UVA ITS offers several WiFi options.
- EduRoam - Requires registration and a Digital Certificate
- Wahoo - Requires Registration - non-broadcasting, no Digital Certificate required - Best option for department managed wireless devices
- Guest - Self Service - Short Term connectivity - most restrictive

Ethernet Wired Network
Things to Know:
ITS is the sole telephone and Internet provider in academic and residential buildings at UVA. Only ITS is authorized to attach networking equipment and install and/or modify network infrastructure in buildings where ITS provides service.

VPN - Virtual Private Network
UVA offers VPN connectivity to ensure data security
Things to know:
- You do not need to use VPN for on- or off-Grounds access to most services (e.g., Zoom, UVA Collab, Microsoft 365, and others).
- You do need VPN for off-Grounds access to some Library resources, shared drives, etc.
- You should use VPN anytime you are connecting from an untrusted network (e.g. coffee house, fast food restaurant, non-UVA library).

UVA Ready Mobile Safety App
With UVA Ready you can:
- locate University safety resources
- send a concern or tip to UVA police
- send an "I'm Ok!" message and your location to friends and loved ones during an emergency
- invite your friends on a "virtual walk" and set a timer for your arrival
- be connected by phone to resources on and off Grounds
- call 911
- receive emergency notifications targeted to your geographic location, and much more!
