UVA Hypersonics Research Complex
The UVA Hypersonics Research Complex consists of ten laboratories across 25,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art research space. The Complex houses the research of 17 faculty from the Departments of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Engineering Systems and Environment, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Complex supports our core strengths in air-breathing propulsion and materials for hypersonic applications and is serving as a catalyst to expand our systems engineering and turbomachinery research for hypersonic applications.

History
National Center for Hypersonic Combined Cycle Propulsion
This five-year, national flag-ship hypersonic research center was supported though ~$9 million in funding from AFOSR and NASA. It incorporated eight university partners, two industrial members, and collaboration with two NASA research centers and one AFRL lab. The Center successfully graduated 26 PhD and 2 MS students from eight universities over five years.

Christopher Goyne
Professor Goyne, after groundbreaking research at his alma mater University of Queensland, Australia, and UVA Engineering, continues his work in hypersonic air-breathing propulsion, supersonic aerodynamics, hypersonic ground and flight test techniques, diagnostic and measurement technique development, controls and advanced manufacturing.
